Scharloo and Maritime Museum

 scharloo

The Wilhelmina Suspension Bridge connects Punda to the once thriving neighborhood of Scharloo, where the first Jewish merchants built stately homes. It was a tight-knit community, and the architecture (many of which dates back to the 17th century) throughout Scharlooweg is magnificent. Part of the neighborhood has been restored as part of a UNESCO heritage site, and the Curaçao Monuments Foundation will restore older mansions in the future. This neighborhood is also home to the island's most photographed building, a light green mansion nicknamed the "Wedding Cake House" because it looks like it's covered in white icing. Kleine Werf – the little pier at the top of Scharloo – has now become a venue for large-scale open-air concerts. New nightlife corners like District 1850 are also popping up here.

Maritime Museum

Designed to resemble the interior of a ship, the museum gives you an insight into Curaçao's nearly 500 years of maritime history, using model ships, historical maps, nautical charts, navigational equipment and audiovisual displays. Topics explored in the exhibits include the development of Willemstad as a trading city, Curaçao's role as a center for contraband, the remains of De Alphen (a Dutch sea that exploded and sank in St. Anna's Bay in 1778 and was excavated in 1984) cargo ship), the slave trade, the development of steamships, and the role of the Dutch navy on the island. The museum also offers a two-hour guided tour (Wednesday and Saturday, 1:00 pm) by “water bus” through the port of Curaçao, a route familiar to traders, smugglers and pirates. The museum is wheelchair accessible. The on-site bar/restaurant Sails is open for lunch.

When you return to Turkey after your Curaçao trip, you can also consider a special holiday in our beautiful country. Yacht Charter service has been very popular lately. You can have a reliable and unique holiday with Sava Yacht Charter. You should definitely evaluate this option, especially with Bodrum Yacht Charter options.
